Here are some answers to common questions about the program. However, if your question is not covered, by all means feel free to email us with the link above.
What is the Promised Land Campaign?
Recognizing God’s visible hand in leading us to land for our new home He made available for us, we made “The Promised Land” our campaign name and our constant reminder that He is with us.The Campaign is an opportunity for every parishioner to participate in attaining our goal of building the new facility in Rowlett. The primary goals of this phase of the campaign are to:
• Pay off the debt on the renovation of our current ministry space
• Pay off the debt on the six acres of land we have purchased in Rowlett
• Start a building fund for the initial costs of improving the property in Rowlett and preparing for the construction phase.
Why have we hired an outside consultant to raise funds?
The Board unanimously agreed that we need expert guidance to raise funds. We believe it is important to take advantage of the proven experience of professionals who have assisted other churches in raising funds to attain their goals. The consultant charges a modest set fee for his services. The fee will likely represent less than 2% of the total funds pledged in the campaign. We chose Generis to assist us because of their expertise and reputation in working with churches to prayerfully and successfully run a smooth campaign.
How much do we owe on the land and how much will we need to start building?
We currently owe about $455,000 to Frost Bank for the loan on the Rowlett Property, which will be paid off before we begin to build on the land. The exact cost of building the first phase of our Master Plan will be difficult to accurately predict at this time given the rise in building costs and the need for detailed architectural plans (which we have not yet commissioned the architectural firm to complete). However, there will be many “soft costs” before we can start breaking ground, which include site improvements, utility work, permits, surveys and other city requirements. We estimate that we will need at least $500,000 to complete these preliminary improvements. At the time of this writing, we have about $16,000 in our savings account which are designated funds for the land in Rowlett.
What can my family do to help in the campaign?
There are many ways for families or individuals to be involved. The Scriptures direct that "each person should give according to his or her ability." If you do not have a large income, savings or investments, you may wonder how you can do anything at all. Remember the parable of the widow's mite and that it is not the amount of the gift that matters to God, but the condition of the heart and the willingness to give sacrificially. Some will be able to give gifts of $50,000 or more and some significantly less. There are many creative ways to give toward the campaign over and above your tithe. Some of these ways include donating money used for hobbies, cable television or other recreational activities during the campaign's duration. One creative project being planned is to allow parishioners to list items on EBay with the proceeds going toward the campaign. During the campaign, suggestions for many creative ideas will be shared for ways to give over and above your tithe. It is important that you do not substitute giving to the campaign in place of your regular tithe to the church. However, it is most important to pray and ask God how you can give and in what ways you can make a loving and sacrificial gift that will allow us to spread the gospel and expand our ministry to those in need of the love of Jesus Christ.
What happens after commitments are made and announced?
When will commitments be expected and for what time period will we be asked to commit to over and above our regular giving? After all the commitments are made, the following Sunday we will have what is known as "First Fruits Sunday"where each person will give their first gift toward their commitment. Depending on the amount of this collection, we will begin paying the debt incurred on the renovations and the land. We will continue to give you updates on the progress of the campaign and will periodically have additional opportunities for new members of the church to give toward the campaign. These updates will help all of us to remember the serious responsibility of our commitments to Christ the Redeemer and to our Lord's work.
The Promised Land Campaign will kick off on January 27th at our Annual Parish Meeting. After four Sundays of teaching, prayer and testimonies, each person will have an opportunity on February 24 to present his or her prayerful commitment to the Lord at the Sunday worship services. This commitment will be over a three year period and you will have an opportunity to begin giving to the Lord on First Fruits Sunday which will be March 2. At that time, we hope to receive approximately 10% of the funds that have been pledged to the campaign.
The timeframe of these events is flexible and depends on a number of factors including the total amount of funds pledged. Once we have the renovations and the land paid for, the Board and Building Committee will put together a timeline of when we can expect the groundbreaking to take place. Given the fact that the pledges for the campaign are being made over a three year period, it is likely the ground breaking will not take place until after this three year period.
What kind of church building are we planning?
We have hired the services of the architectural firm, Brown, Brown and Associates to assist with the completion of the Master Plan. We have a general idea of space needs and it has been the general consensus of all involved in this process that we want a more traditional church style and an appearance that is warm and inviting. The final architectural plans will not be completed until enough funds have been secured to start breaking ground. Those architectural plans will be shared with the congregation in advance of any groundbreaking. A "First Draft" of the Master Plan that shows the first phase of the building is included in this brochure for you to develop a feeling for what the final building may look like.
What kind of church growth are we planning for? Have any studies been made to determine what we can expect in growth at Broadway and then at the Rowlett facility? How long will we remain in our present facility?
The architectural firm has done extensive interviews with church staff and ministry leaders to determine the trends in growth and ministry. It will take some time to accurately project growth at the Broadway campus and then to merge those trends with expected growth at the Rowlett campus. However, just the increase in population and our increase in outreach will spur growth in the Church. We expect to remain in our current location for at least another 2-3 years, which is why we have invested in expanding and renovating the current facility.
What is the total financial goal of the Promised Land Campaign?
The Building Committee and Board have come to a prayerful decision in making the financial goal for the Promised Land Campaign. Using our consultant’s experience and extensive statistics on previous fundraising campaigns across all denominations, we can expect to raise between 2 and 2.5 times our annual income which we project in 2007 to be $550,000. Therefore, we have set our goal for this campaign at $1.25 million.
What is the expected cost of the new building? What is the planned space and its use?
The expected cost is $4 million above the cost of the land. This cost estimate may rise as much as 20% each year, so time is of the essence. There is a Master Plan being prepared and will be available soon for view. The building committee is working hard on this.
Are there Biblical examples of building for God?
There are more than we could mention! Perhaps the best illustration is King David’s call from God to build the Temple in I Chronicles 29: 1-10
And David the king said to all the assembly, "Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for the palace will not be for man but for the LORD God. So I have provided for the house of my God, so far as I was able, the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, and the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, besides great quantities of onyx and stones for setting, antimony, colored stones, all sorts of precious stones, and marble. Moreover, in addition to all that I have provided for the holy house, I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, and because of my devotion to the house of my God I give it to the house of my God: three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for overlaying the walls of the house, and for all the work to be done by craftsmen, gold for the things of gold and silver for the things of silver. Who then will offer willingly, consecrating himself today to the LORD?" Then the heads of fathers' houses made their freewill offerings, as did also the leaders of the tribes, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officers over the king's work. They gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and a hundred thousand talents of iron. And whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, in the care of Jehi'el the Gershonite. Then the people rejoiced because these had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the LORD; David the king also rejoiced greatly. Therefore David blessed the LORD in the presence of all the assembly; and David said: "Blessed art thou, O LORD, the God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.
