This Sunday we’ll continue a discussion series based on “How To Give Away Your Faith” by Paul Little. This inductive study helps you discover for yourself what Scripture is saying. You will have a thought-provoking study guide that helps you in asking the who, what, when, how and where questions. Then you'll go on to Interpretation and Application. Be sure to bring your Bibles. This study will be led by Deacon Sheri. If you have any questions, feel free to contact her at 972-240-0181 or 469-258-0610, or email office@rowlettanglicans.org.

Mower's Ministry

Christ the Redeemer - Mowers' Ministry

Well….it is once again mowing season and this letter is an attempt to recruit volunteers to help take care of the lawn at our Canterbury House. The goal is to have enough volunteers pledge their time to help in this ministry so that you would not be required to be on lawn duty more than twice a month.

Let me first tell you what is expected when I say lawn duty. We will need to cut the lawn and weed eat the property around the house and the area along the parkway out on Miller Road as far as the white fence runs.

The scheduled day for this ministry is going to be Tuesday evenings around 5:30 p.m. and there are a couple of reasons for that….if we have any type of activities at the Canterbury House on Wednesdays, the property would look nice for those events and I felt it better to be a night of the week than to ask folks to give up a part of their Saturday as most of us work hard during the week and look forward to having our weekends to ourselves… not to mention it is a day when people tend to do their own landscaping duties in their own yards.

This is how this is going to work….there is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board outside the kitchen area at the church and it has all the Tuesdays listed starting in the month of May and running through September. You will see 4 blanks to sign your name in on each Tuesday. My hope is that you can find it in your heart to sign your name on 2 dates for each month….but there is not a limit to how many times you can sign up for if you would like to include yourself for more assignments.

There needs to be a minimum of 3 people per week but I would prefer that we have 4. Three people can cut and weed eat the property in about two to two and a half hours…and it is obvious if we had a fourth person it would just cut the time down even more.

Because the church is not financially able to go out and purchase all of the equipment that would be needed to keep three or four people mowing and weed eating at the same time….we are going to ask you to bring your own personal lawn equipment (lawn mower / weed eater / edger / etc.) if you possibly can. If you do not have or cannot transport any equipment please DO NOT LET THAT KEEP YOU FROM SIGNING UP TO HELP.

After the schedule has been filled out completely…I will take the schedule and make a list of all of the volunteers and their phone numbers. Each volunteer will be given a completed schedule and phone list which will give you access to all of the volunteers. Since it is not practical to think that some of the volunteers might never have a conflict arise that would keep them from fulfilling their commitment on a certain Tuesday…what I am proposing is this….say you have a conflict arise in July that is not going to allow you to come and mow on your assigned day…you just need to get your schedule and call someone on the list that you can hopefully trade dates with…that will allow us to always have a full crew each Tuesday.

Now for my plea!!! The church simply cannot at this time afford to hire this yard work out. This is just a guess but I believe it would cost a minimum of $75.00 to $100.00 PER WEEK to have a landscape company come in and take care of the lawn for us… and that is just not a place where the church needs to be putting funds when we can take care of it ourselves. So please pray about this ministry and see if you feel that God might be leading you to be a part of the Mower’s Ministry.

Please understand that 5 or 6 people WILL NOT be enough to make this work. It is my hope to have between 15 to 20 volunteers for this ministry.

If you have any further questions about being a part of this group you can call me at (972) 463-4467.
