Helping Hands News
“Helping Hands†want to share our blessings with the congregation. Our first endeavor was a neighbor who needed help with getting his property in shape after receiving four code violation tickets. Men of the church came together on their lunch hours for a few days and cleaned, mowed and hauled off two truck loads of junk. A member of the Woods Neighborhood Watch accompanied the old gentleman to court where two tickets were dismissed and two were reduced to an amount he could payout. He was very thankful for the help.
At Fr. Lawrence’s suggestion, the Woods block captains selected a family that can temporarily use a little help and we adopted them for the coming year. It was a real blessing for so many. Matt & Heidi Olszewski and Julia Blom helped the Youth Group select gifts from the family’s wish list and prepared a program of Christmas carols. On the Saturday before Christmas, the Youth Group was joined by Dan & Jerry Tillman and visited the Family. The Mom made cookies and cake for us and we had a very enjoyable time eating and singing. The family was excited and thankful and we all felt blessed by God in this special season.
Books have been donated for the Veterans Hospital (through the Daughters of the American Revolution). These need to go to Jerry Tillman. We accept books and sample size toiletries to make ditty bags for the Vets. Don’t forget we now have Lady Vets too. This is a continuing effort since we have injured coming in daily and some do not have families. If you would like to give cash instead, please mark it for Helping Hands – Vets.
We still need volunteers who will just be on call as needs come in. We also appreciate cash donations and you can mark your check for Helping Hands. We need help in knowing when our church family or our neighbors need help. If you have a need or know someone who does you can contact Father Jeff or Jerry Tillman, jerrytillman@verizon.net and we will follow up.
